Drive ID from Cellcontrol is a small solar-powered box that fits onto the vehicles windscreen, behind the rear-view mirror via strong self-adhesive pads so it cant easily be removed. As there is no wiring, it will work in all vehicles. When it detects that the vehicle is moving it communicates with the Cellcontrol App which is installed on the phone and it ensures that the phone can only be used in accordance with the phone policy that has been set up in the Cellcontrol web portal.
Cellcontrol focuses on the two driver groups that can be policed by others and those also happen to be the two highest risk groups;
Firstly fleet drivers, who are at high risk simply because they drive for a living and cover more miles then anyone else, often on long journeys where boredom leads to the temptation to use their phones.
Secondly, teenage drivers who are more at risk for many reasons: They dont have the benefit of experience, they think theyre invincible, and they are more permanently married to their phones than any other driver age group, waiting for the next message, tweet, facebook etc to appear.
There are two versions, one for Consumers (teenage drivers), which can police up to six family phones and one for Fleets, that allows a large numbers of drivers, to be monitored easily.
Most fleets nowadays have a corporate mobile phone policy that sets out what drivers can and cant do when with their phones when behind the wheel. For example they may be allowed to use their phones via handsfree if fitted, or not. Although most companies have such policies they are impossible to police or enforce and most companies have no idea if they are adhered to.
Cellcontrol allows both Fleet and Consumer users to create mobile policies within the web portal which specifies how drivers are allowed to use their phones. For example handsfree use may be allowed, or SatNav or music, or phones can be entirely disabled. Once a policy is assigned to a driver, the drivers phone can only be used according to that policy. Emergency numbers can always be accessed.
Once the system is set up, which typically takes around five minutes, Cellcontrol takes over and the parent or fleet manager has peace of mind that their child or their business is protected. Any attempt to tamper with the system sends a notification to the parent or fleet administrator.
Cellcontrol also analyses driving styles and gives scores based on how well they have driven and even reports on speeding so it also help encourage better driving over time. Drive ID can also distinguish between a driver and a passenger, barring the driver from using the phone while allowing passengers to use theirs.
