About Us

Wythenshawe Community Initiative, based at Woodhouse Park Family Centre, is a community organisation and charity providing a wide variety of services for local children and families. We are led by the needs of our local community, offering support and fun activities.

Stepping Stones Playgroup Monday – Friday 9. 30 -12. 30 Term-time only Pre-school early education for 2 and half to 4 year olds. We are a daily playgroup providing a range of educational activities aimed at preparing children for school. We are a small and welcoming group based at a family centre in Woodhouse Park with relatively high staff ratios. We have a large outdoor play area and large main playroom as well as a small side room for story / quiet time. Wythenshawe Child Contact Centre Tuesday 3. 30 - 6pm; Saturday 10. 30 - 12. 30 and 1, 30 - 3. 30 ; Sunday 1. 30pm - 3. 30pm Wythenshawe Child Contact Centre is a supported contact centre and provides a safe and neutral venue for non-resident parents and families members to see their children, with the overall purpose of independent contact arrangements being eventually made. It also aims to develop and improve the relationship between the non-resident parent and their child. Holiday playschemes We run open access playschemes during school holidays. Days and times are dependent on funding, please call a few weeks before holidays are due to start. Age range – 5-11 yrs.

Establishment: 2013 sees Wythenshawe Community Initiative celebrate our 20th Anniversary. WCI is a truly local charity and was the brainchild of local residents in 1993 who were concerned about the high level of need and lack of resources for families in Woodhouse Park. Supported by the local minister a steering group was formed and Wythenshawe Community Initiative(then known as Woodhouse Park Family Centre) was born. Since then we have gone on to support over 4, 000 families and created employment opportunities for 44 people, as well as countless volunteering and sessional positions.
